Frits studeerde biologie aan de Universiteit van Utrecht en van Amsterdam en promoveerde in de microbiologie aan de Universiteit van Groningen. Toen hij voor zijn promotieonderzoek aan de University of Alaska Fairbanks werkte, kwam hij in contact met moleculaire genetica en DNA-diagnostiek. Hij slaagde erin deze technieken verder te ontwikkelen voor medische en veterinaire toepassing bij de Medische Faculteit in Groningen en deze ontwikkelingen werden commercieel geïmplementeerd in een start-up diagnostisch bedrijf, waarvan hij mededirecteur was.

Frits trad in 2001 in dienst bij V.O. Hij heeft een brede deskundigheid, en is met name betrokken bij therapeutische en diagnostische (medische) biotechnologie, microbiologie en gewasbescherming. Door zijn achtergrond en zijn huidige cliëntenportefeuille heeft Frits in het bijzonder ervaring met Life Science bedrijven die hun essentiële technologieën willen beschermen. Hij heeft ruime ervaring met octrooizaken bij het Europees Octrooibureau en de rechtbank in Den Haag. Frits heeft ook ervaring met gewasbescherming bij het Dutch and Community Plant Variety Office.

In zijn hoedanigheid van European Patent Litigator, is Frits bevoegd om als UPC representative op te treden.
